INTRODUCTION

The interior design project for this flat located inside in an early 20th-century building was to fulfil two fundamental requirements of the client: the creation of functional spaces that are never clearly separated from each other, but overlap and interpenetrate, and the restoration of the building's historical character by preserving and enhancing some of the materials already present.

DESCRIPTION

Particular attention was paid to the design of the kitchen and cloakroom, which perfectly embody the first requirement. Both rooms present themselves as passageways, almost as if they were connecting elements between the different areas of the house.

The kitchen becomes a point of passage between the living room and entrance, while the wardrobe is inserted in continuity with the sleeping area and serves as a connection to the master bedroom.

As for the recovery of historical elements, the moulded glass of the original interior doors was restored and given a new lease of life in the imposing custom-made sliding door of the kitchen. This intervention allowed a tangible link with tradition to be maintained while also incorporating an innovative element.

The door, inspired by the De Stijl movement, is characterised by its essential and austere geometries, which give shape to solids and voids, alternating contemporary materials such as raw iron and lacquer with moulded glass from the early 20th century.
