INTRODUCTION

The project concerns a flat in a historic building in the centre of Milan, which dates from the late 19th century. The peculiarity of this space is the presence of a load-bearing wall that crosses the entire house lengthwise and divides the environment into two large and distinct macro-areas.

The design idea was born from the desire to enhance this load-bearing structure, integrating it into the interior design. The wall thus becomes the central element around which the spatial organisation is built.

PROJECT

It was decided to place all the storage elements of the house along the wall: from the wardrobes in the sleeping area to the bookcases in the living area, as well as the service rooms such as the kitchen and bathroom.

These wardrobes are arranged along the load-bearing wall, forming a central corridor that leads directly to the sleeping area without obstructing the light between the two rooms. The arrangement of these elements allows for a functional yet fluid separation that favours the natural flow of light between the living and sleeping areas.

The result is a single linear volume that extends the entire length of the apartment and connects the living and sleeping areas visually and functionally. The wall thus becomes a connecting element that facilitates communication between the two areas and creates a continuous and harmonious flow between the different living spaces.

MATERIALS

The choice of materials plays a fundamental role in this project and aims to create a contrast between natural and artificial materials. The microcement that characterises the living area contrasts with the warm American walnut that has been laid in the sleeping area, creating an interesting play of textures and colours that clearly separates the two areas while maintaining visual continuity.

A special element of the project is the bathroom, where the shower wall is made of marble, transforming the moment of self-care into an unforgettable experience. Marble, with its elegance and sophistication, adds a touch of discreet luxury, enhancing the functionality of the space and conveying a sense of intimacy and well-being.

In this way, the original structure of the building is not only respected but also enhanced, creating a balance between tradition and modernity, functionality and aesthetics, where each element contributes to creating a unique and sophisticated atmosphere.

THE GOAL

The overall design focuses on maximising the use of space, ensuring that every corner serves a purpose that is both functional and aesthetic. This project is an expression of modern living, where every detail is considered and combines practicality with luxury to create a space that is both beautiful and liveable.
